What is the Ugly Truth?

Updated: Jun 19, 2023

What do I mean by the ugly truth? We’ve all seen the movie and heard the saying, but what does it mean in terms of transformational change?

To me the ugly truth is the one fact that I make excuses for. The one fact, that if I change how I look at it, will create massive change in my life.

Example: I want to lose 30lbs.

Excuses: The gym is too far. It costs too much money. I’m not comfortable working out with women who look like models. It's too much work to cook healthy meals. Healthy food is too expensive.

Ugly Truth: I don’t want to put in the work that it takes to lose 30lbs.

It doesn’t stop there. Now that I know my ugly truth, I need to find the limiting belief behind it.

  • Why don’t I want to put the work in?

  • What feelings come up when I think about working out?

  • What feelings come up when I think about how I’ll look and feel after I’ve lost the 30lbs?

That is where the change comes in. That is where transformation occurs and helps to create new goals, new beliefs, new wins.

So, now it’s your turn. I invite you to answer the following questions:

  • What area of your life would you like to change? Why?

  • What excuses are you using to not do the work?

  • What is your ugly truth?

  • What is your limiting belief?

  • What feelings come up when you think about your goal? Or your excuses?

  • What feelings come up when you think about achieving your goal?
